The Hummer and the Carpenter…

They are so much alike. I’m talking about the bird, not the truck. :)

The Artist has been keeping me informed about our cute little hummingbird, she refers to as “the hummer”. We actually had a nesting pair somewhere on our property this summer. Saw the little ones and the parents at our feeder. Right now, it’s just the mom that is still hanging around. The Artist has read that right now hummingbirds are bulking up for a long flight down to South America to spend the winter. We even think we can see that she has fattened up a little, at least we want to think that.

How is the Hummer and the Carpenter alike you ask?

Well I’m bulking up too! Not in the adding extra pounds area, but starting to look out the seasonal horizon knowing what’s right around the corner, (they are saying heavy frost up north tonight and major snow out in the Dakotas) getting ready for my long flight into March and trying to bulk up on work.

This is always a stressful time for me. It can add worry and apprehension as to what the winter will bring. I can’t believe I’m talking winter. We hardly had summer. I think we had only two days over 90, and very few days in the 80’s. Coming off our never ending winter, and excessively wet spring earlier this year, I am hoping for a dry warm winter, with lots of nice inside work!

Easier said then done. I was chatting with a friend at the Y this week and he asked my why don’t I just do inside work in the winter? Boy, what a dream. If it were only that easy. I told him I want to eat. When the bills stop coming over the winter that is when I can be choosey on when I do and don’t work in the snow and cold.

Maybe my dream will come true and we will be inside all winter, until then the Hummer and I will keep on doing our thing. (Have you ever seen a carpenter swing his hammer as fast as a hummer can flap her wings? very dangerous)
