Time to organize!

Yesterday was an occasion for me. An occasion to celebrate. Well maybe not. But at least an occasion to note. The Carpenter had our crew clean and start organizing the cabinet shop. It has been organized in the past.. but with the bustle of on-going jobs.. items get scattered. Going in there has always made me scattered. Seeing order and cleanliness come out of the sawdust made my organizer heart go pitter. pat. …

I'm envisioning order from this point forward. Probably not realistic. But a good goal to shoot for. And the efficiency of an ordered work environment. More space to move around. Less minutes to locate a tool. Knowing what supplies you have to avoid buying more of what you already have. And my theory is.. if you start work in "neat" you will have more incentive to keep it "neat".

Having a cabinet shop sets Applewood apart from other builders. For years we rented shop space. A couple of spaces came with showrooms and were brand new. Some were nothing more then an unheated shed (in the early years). The Carpenter would be dining on a pizza and look up to see his begging fellow mouse tenants.

Almost 20 years ago, we bought a property that already had a building on it. And the property came with a house too! So no longer do I have to wake up at 3 AM and wonder if the Carpenter has cut his finger off two towns away where he's been working late into the night on a project. Yes.. those were the fun years. Now all I have to do is look outside the window to see if the light is on in the shop.. and if needed walk a few steps to check on him. And I can do this in my jammies. nice.

So here's to organizing the shop! I'm so excited. Especially because there is still that mountain of unpainted ugly lovelies out there. I have a new plan. Will save for another post.
