The house was crammed full of many relatives. I can get overwhelmed and shy in crowds so I focused on how the home was "styled" when I wasn't mingling. I have to say it really inspired me for our home. The paint palette was a strong contrast of white walls and deep hues of sagey blue, gray and green. There were no medium values like cream or taupe or beige. It was striking and I can't say that I would ever have thought of that combination. So refreshing to see something different.
Another wonderful thing about the decor was the minimalistic approach. A simple grouping of prints over a beautiful emerald green plush tufted sofa, two paper mache animal heads over the fireplace, a perfectly placed embroidered pillow, a fat felted bear sitting on top of a recycled wood desk (sorry I cropped off Mr Bear's head), a jar of rustic colored pencils. Muted tones with pops of color.
Even the Christmas tree inspired me. I did not put up a tree this year. I'd lost my Christmas tree mojo. This tree was a virtue of simplicity. Lots of breathe between dear little ornaments.. a felted fox, a glass ball with secret little messages inside.
You know it doesn't matter what type of house you live in, what style or how small or large it is. Having a personal style for your home outshines the physical building that is your home. You might say..well who cares what the decor is.. well for some of us, our environment is important. It gives a sense of peace and security and satisfaction. And those aren't bad things to have in this hectic life.
So the next time you are invited to share a meal, stop and really look around. Notice what is important to your host, your family member or friend. And be thankful for a shared time together in their home sweet home.

I wish in hindsight I had thought to take photos! I think this means I must head back. And I will when I take final photos of the finished siding!
