we're here. together.

thank you for reading this blog!

We've had over 3200 page views since it's inception last summer! That is amazing to me. When you have a dream.. it really is just taking that first step and then another. and another.

My dream since leaving my director job at our church was to help the Carpenter achieve his dreams for Applewood with all my marketing earnestness. He is an artist with wood. (me- paper, paint, flowers) He also is very task oriented. Making it happen. Driving the team. ...

He doesn't have time to look up and towards the horizon to see the next potential incoming project. I do. now. Let me just say (and I speak from experience) ... artist's aren't very good at marketing themselves. It does take more then craftsmanship and skill to run a business like this. Especially in this rocky economy. especially. It takes someone looking out for you, testing the wind, scanning the scape with a trusty set of binoculars. It takes vision, determination, fortitude (for the times money is sparse), it takes tenacity to butt in to the status quo.. the way it's always been, making changes for efficiency, growth. Letting go of the old ways for better improved ways. growth. It takes the ability to work with one's spouse, getting dirty, doing menial tasks for this artist professional type, for the greater good. It takes moxy. trust. It takes compromise and learning to work together in a graceful way.

All these years I focused on me, my career path. We lived our professions like the rails of a train track. Always parallel. never crossing. Choosing to cross into the construction world instead of the graphics world seems I'm sure like pure craziness to some. With all we've been through with the housing market crash.. but I realized today. today. That if I hadn't stepped into the unknown world where the carpenter lives... so many good things would not have happened or continue to happen. It's been horribly scary, frustrating, but exhilarating when a challenge has been conquered.. and mostly it's been exciting to see the ship that has been sailing along for these past 30 years, fill it's sails and head in a new direction. We've been becalmed. we've been tossed around in rough water. But we're here. setting our bow towards the horizon. Bring it on. we're here. together.
