patience in the toolbox

Looking back…..

It’s been 4 ½ months since we dug the hole for the foundation of the Craftsman Project we are completing soon. In some respects it’s been a long haul, but in other respects it seems like we just started.

We have gone through rain, freezing rain, ice, mud, cold wind, extreme cold, snow, snow, snow, and a little more snow. I think I have plowed out the job site 5 times; we have shoveled off the roof 6 times, maybe 7. We had to go through a January thaw where the mud exposed itself for a few days and now the mud and the rain is preventing us from finishing the few things that need to get done so the stucco crew can do their thing.

The forecast is for unseasonably cold, rain and snow for the next couple of days. That means we stay inside and at least we will be able to finish the inside work.

There have been a few times through this job that we have had to re-focus on what part of the project we would be working on.

Either weather, or sub-contractor schedules, or just a plain and simple case of the carpenter’s eyes being too big for the time allowed for the project at hand, schedules have been adjusted and re-assessed. Materials and parts have been added or changed, which in turn add to the time of the total project. Sometimes one little change in the plan can take a couple of weeks to come to pass.

All of this to say…sometimes patience is the best tool we can have in the toolbox.

Our homeowners have been great in going with the flow, and now soon it all pays off. We are just a few days from completing the inside portion of the job and they can then use the new kitchen. Now if we can just get it to dry up outside!

Carol, we are coming soon!
