know yourself

When it is time to do that long put off home repair or improvement and you finally make it to the “Depot”, don’t let a guy in orange tell you how easy it is.

Before you start, ask a few questions:

1) Do I really have a handle on the scope of work?

2) What is my time frame and can I stick to it?

3) What am I capable of doing?

4) Can I afford to do it right?

You will find that most answers you get from big box stores are pretty general and won't quite get you where you need to be. Don’t give into the urge to go ahead anyway, even if you didn’t understand the directions, just because you set the time aside to do it.

You will find that some well spent time with someone who is experienced in what you want to do will save many headaches in the long run. And after you have done a little homework on the project at hand, you will be in a better position to decide if you want to tackle this alone, or bring in some help.
