My answer usually will be in the form of a question or
several questions right back to them.
Something like; what is your budget? Or, what are you trying
to do with it? Or, how often will you be using it? And maybe others.
The point is a lot depends on those questions. We tend to
buy the most durable tools that are out there for the specific use we are
looking for. Sometimes they are the most expensive, other times not. For
instance I’m not going to buy a $2000 Delta table saw to haul around in my
trailer everyday when the $500 Rigid will serve us just fine for many years. In
the same light, we use our air guns very hard and under extreme conditions. That
is when and where I choose to spend more to get what has been proven in the
industry year in and year out. I have tried the cheap way on those type of
tools and for the most part, it doesn’t pay.
A good general answer would be do your homework, read about
it before you buy it, talk to those of us that use a lot of tools on a daily
basis, and probably buy the tool that fits your budget the best.
In closing remember one rule that should never be broken…..
Friends don’t let friends buy “Tool Shop” tools! ( yes I
have tried some, enough said!)
