On the "home"stretch!

It's the final week at our Hyde Avenue reroof project. This job came about because of last year's huge snow fall season amount, which caused the roof rafters to sag under the load. The rafters were built wrong.

The project title doesn't really speak to the diverse amount of work that has been done in the past two months! We started out by tearing off the roof, area by area. It was the dead of winter. Usually the worst time to take this type of project on. We could have had many "nuisance snow" events. (In Minnesota we don't usually get blizzards and when it's bitter cold it's just too cold to snow heavy), so we anticipated a number of 2-6" snows. Didn't happen. Thankful. …

We were able to bring on just the right amount of subs to get the bulk of the project done quickly and on schedule. The crew worked well together and seemed to enjoy their days… even when the bitter was present.

Whenever you tear into an existing home.. surprises can happen. This project was no exception. We discovered that the living room fireplace when fully revealed was in a dangerous condition. We were able to get an inspector in which helped sway the insurance company to make the situation safe. So not only do the homeowners have a safe new roof, they will have two beautiful brand new gas fireplaces! (the living room fireplace functioned with the family room fireplace below it.)

Along with tearing the living room cathedral ceiling out during the roof rebuild… the living room walls had to be repaired as well as the ceiling re-rocked and textured. We also repainted the living room, upper hallway and kitchen. And also added additional recessed lights to the living room, kitchen and hallway which we were able to fit that into the schedule and stay on deadline. It's gonna feel like a brand new house!

Along the way we had to deal with many tiny details. As well as keep the job site reasonably cleaned up and organized during the process. I'm spending time at the project these days. Helping out wherever I can from picking up debris outside, painting, removing tape from around windows, screwing back on switch plates to final cleaning. And you who read this blog know I love to create order! Tomorrow our crew is laying tile and stone on the fireplaces. Earlier in the week our heating sub hooked up the gas which was inspected yesterday. Step by step it's getting done.

It's been a good ride. The weather was on our side, we've smoothly tackled all the expected and unexpected challenges. We look forward to a full prosperous busy spring!

Bring it on!
