(I wrote this last night while we were camping without internet)
Here we are. Unplugged literally from our everyday life. No
internet to post tonight. That’s okay. I’m in the mood to write. The
Carpenter and I are on our annual fall camping weekend. We try to camp three
times a year. Fall camping is my favorite. No people, bugs, heat or bears! They
(the bears) don’t bother to come to a mostly empty campground when there’s
little junk people food to be had.
We haven’t talked very much about Applewood this weekend.
The Carpenter has gotten some good rest. We’ve eaten well. Mostly all crock
pot. Intentional for minimal clean-up. We even watched a DVD movie last night.
We don’t normally watch movies together these days. Too much work to do mostly.
I’m hoping to spend some moments before we break camp discussing
Applewood. What we can do to improve efficiency, lift some of the workload off
of the Carpenter’s shoulders. The usual concerns. We are 3 hours away from the
business. I hope that is far enough to gain some perspective. I like
perspective. And if you’ve been reading this blog you know that!
Tomorrow we head home. I’m anxious to get back to my furniture
painting project- “A Painted Apple”. I’ve actually started painting again. In
fact I asked the Carpenter to pick up another freebie piece sitting on our road
last week. And I actually have a vision for this piece! That is a first. I
won’t say more… because I don’t want to jink a good start.
So here we sit by a warm fire, the wind has died down. Our
last night. I don’t think many people would think camping this time of the year
would be fun.. or camping any time of the year would be fun. Well it is for
those of us who like to be outside by a huge beautiful lake, breathing fresh
crisp air, away from the noise of life… a pause, it is most worthwhile.
So here’s to camping and getting away. To coming “home”
refreshed. It’s good for the soul and for a Carpenter and Artist.
~ the Artist
Quote of the weekend from the Carpenter: "Time away gives me a whole new perspective and energy to make changes. Then I get home and the feeling wanes. I guess that is normal. The Artist says I need to start each day with that intention. One intentional day at a time!"
