Ship's Ladder

We are currently building a "Ship's Ladder" for a lake cabin to access a loft. I anticipated finding some interesting facts about Ship's Ladders. Well I was wrong. Not much out there other then their origin is nautical. I bet you didn't know that! …

Ships need stairs that take very little room. Home Ship's Ladders are needed for the same reason. They are stationary, or moveable for storage. They ascend quickly using minimal floor space to access a loft, second floor room or tree house! They are functional in purpose but add great architectural detail to a room. Library ladders are similar, but are always movable to easily access materials on upper shelves.

I did find some good Ship's Ladder photos on Houzz.com. Just google "Ship's Ladders" or head to our Pinterest board "Ship's Ladders" here… http://www.pinterest.com/colorqueen8/ships-ladder/

I can't wait to see our Ship's Ladder come together. You can follow the building process here https://www.facebook.com/ApplewoodINC. I will continue to add photos to the album. Click on the Photos tab at the top of our Facebook page. "Photos" > "Albums" > "McGregor Ship's Ladder".

I found a blog post showing photos of a simple Ship's Ladder that was built. http://www.blueroofcabin.com/2012/05/i-built-ships-ladder.html

The ladder parts are being built in our cabinet shop and will be transported to the cabin and assembled there. The crew will be gone for a couple of days. Too bad the lake will be too cold for a swim!
