natures balancing act

I'm sitting here by a beautiful lake. We're enjoying a long fall camping weekend. Weather is perfect, not too cold, not too hot. Trees are colorful. I can smell campfires and watch eagles flying overhead- we counted five soaring this morning! This is refueling a creative girl and her carpenter.

It's been a very busy hectic stretching summer. Work has been plentiful but along with that comes more responsibility and more behind the scenes work. But I am not complaining... it is all good! Our basket of apples continues to overflow with potential and current projects. ...

Being self-employed we can never leave the business... turn off the lights and shut the door till the next work day. We had to drive three hours to get away from the "business"! But that wasn't possible as here I sit working on a post by the lake. But who's complaining! It is a very nice office and the view is pretty spectacular!

As I sit here looking "out my office window" I see beautiful fall colors. The trees are waving russet red, golden and limey yellow, burnt umber and pumpkin. I see grass green (nature was trending with emerald first!) and the birches are wearing many shades of gray, white and black. The beach wears beige proudly. The water ripples from the palest to deep gray indigo blue. In the distance the evergreens mingle their muted greens in perfect balance with the happy fall colors around them. Just as in winter.. they balance what would be truly a stark but beautiful white landscape. (at least here in the northland).

The neatest part? It all matches! It all balances. We can take our color cue from nature. If you love your bold brights.. balance with a beautiful neutral taupe, gray or soft antique white. If you love rich neutrals add a pop of bold color in one room. It's all about balance. Don't paint your entire home in bright colors or in all neutrals. Balance with neutrals or bolds depending on which way you favor.

Nature's fall hues are balanced by sandy beiges, muted greens and woody grays.
So I say.. get out in nature this weekend and look at how nature works out color. You won't be disappointed!
