I have talked about this before….. the two jobs we are currently working on have had their share
of surprises, especially the Craftsman project.
It has been a trying time for me dealing with a myriad of
delays due to snow, rain, mud, contractors and yes myself causing some of
these.
The owners of the craftsman project have had to deal with snow, snow, and more snow, which turned to mud in January.
They lived in an ice box for a time while the new addition transformed into their dream kitchen. They also had to deal with delays in cabinets arriving, contractors arriving, decisions with appliances, decisions on “do we or don’t we” on several occasions. Spring finally comes…rain, rain, and more rain. Lots of mud…some in the basement….did I say some???? Understatement!!!
On top of the usual delays, they encountered bad stucco,
mold behind some stucco, even vines and vegetation growing behind some stucco.
We have had to add measures to prevent further water intrusion and a plan for
water management for the complete lot. In previous posts I have talked
about all the rot issues they have had to make decisions on…It’s been a wild
ride.
Our Oak Creek project has had it’s share of rot issues also–
waiting for supplier caused delays, and again living in a house where a kitchen
is totally gone for several weeks.
All of these things may seem unusual. But when I look back at jobs as a whole over the
years, all the unusual things added together make them very usual. Remodeling
is a crazy thing. It can be like hopping a train, knowing what the destination
is but having no idea how many stops it may make along the way and you are just
hanging on waiting for your anticipated arrival.
Enjoying the ride... most days!
