selecting a contractor...

Now is the time..

Spring is just around the corner and that means it gets busy for most of us in the trades.
As you think about those projects you want to get done, remember to do your homework when selecting a contractor.

Here are a few things to think about:

- What is the experience level?

- Are they local, or did they blow in on the latest storm cloud?

- Do they actually do the work, or do a bunch of strangers take over as sub-contractors?

- Licensing. Minnesota requires all contractors to be licensed. With that includes the proper insurance, liability and workers compensation. You can look up contractor licenses at the department of labor and industry. https://secure.doli.state.mn.us/lookup/licensing.aspx The instructions are easy to follow. You select from a pull down menu for these categories: "Discipline"- and for Applewood that is Residential Contractors, and "Classification"- which is Residential Building Contractor for Applewood. Here's a tip.. a contractor without Applewood's Classification with the classification of Residential Remodeler can only remodel, not build new. We can handle new construction or remodeling.

- Always get referrals and check them out, it will be worth the extra effort in the long run!

- The lowest price usually is not the lowest price, make sure to compare correctly. Some contractors come in lower- excluding expected costs just to hook you in.

These are just a few things to think about when choosing a contractor for your spring projects.

This is a great time to talk to us to be ready for warm summer days on your new deck, porch or... Remember we are there to help you in any way we can. Visit our website www.applewoodremodelers.com and see all we have to offer.

Think spring! really it is just around the corner...
