apple pan dowdy

This is an old fashioned apple receipe from a dear friend of mine who's a great baker. I wanted to share it with you because it's starting to feel like fall and my thoughts turn towards cool cozy days with the smell of cinnamon and apples in the air. Baking makes a house fragrant and to me... that's part of making your house a home, a place you love to be.

Apple Pan Dowdy

Filling:

1/3 cup brown sugar
1/4 tsp nutmeg
1/4 tsp cinnamon

Combine and mix with 3 cups of pared and diced apples. Make sure to taste... if apples are tart add a bit more sugar!

Place in 1 qt buttered baking dish, cover and bake 30 min at 375.

Crust:

1/3 cup sugar
3/4 cup flour
3/4 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp salt
1/4 cup butter
1 egg
1/3 cup milk

Combine above ingredients than cut in butter, add egg and milk. Spread over baked apple filling, return to 350 oven to continue baking for 30 more min till top is browned.

And while you are baking.. sing along with this old song! Now this is a truly "vintage" dessert! ~ the Artist
